Though Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) skills were initially developed as a foundation to help treat system dysregulation associated with Borderline Personality Disorder, these same coping skills have been found useful for various other populations. The principle developers of DBT recognized how valuable mindfulness practice is to strengthening the capacity for emotion regulation. This engaging course will help individuals gain thorough knowledge of the foundational skills of the mindfulness module with heavy focus on understanding evidence to support mindfulness and meditation practice. Participants will have opportunities to experience various mindfulness and meditation practices, learning practical applications for clinical and personal use. Participants will also learn ways to navigate common difficulties, hesitations, and willfulness to mindfulness, meditation, and other skills use. This workshop is open to both mental health professionals and community members with an interest in starting or strengthening their mindfulness and meditation practice.
Participants will be able to:
- Understand the evidence highlighting the benefits of trauma-informed mindfulness and meditation use in clinical and personal practice.
- Understand and experience various types of mindfulness and meditation practices.
- Develop a plan to help clients and self cultivate a regular mindfulness and/or meditation practice.
